Cracow – a Chinese stronghold of Central Europe. After Berlin and Sofia, the next Confucius institute in Europe will be set up in Cracow. XXI century is the Chinese century - predicting Andrzej Kapiszewski, professor of the Jagiellonian University’s Far and Near East department. – Chinese will be as popular as Engish, the language of business, science and diplomacy, I have no dubts – says Janusz Sepiol, Malopolski Regional Council Speaker. They both are happy about the fact of undersigning the letter of intent on establishing “Confucius Institute”, between Yuan Guinsen The Republic of China ambassador and Karol Musiol, the rector of Jagiellonian University.
The institution followed the example of Goethe Institute, British Council and Cervantes Institute and will teach people Chinese language, promote Chinese culture and develop business and science contacts between Poland and China.
Chinese people promise us then the institution will be the main in Poland. - It’s our strategy to promote Chinese culture in the world – the Chinese Embassy says.
Now nobody nows where the Confucius Institute’s will have its headquarter. Probably it will be located in the central area of Cracow. The region would like to develop contacts between Poland and China, therefore the central location will make the institution’s status - Janusz Sepiol says. Last year he was a guest in Jang Su province.
For the time being, all Chinese and Poland cooperation’s plans are in the letter of intent, but it’s well known fact that Chinese people are intending to spend a lot of money on the project. In the nearest future the institution will be financed by Chinese and Polish sides both.
